What do you need the translation for, your own personal comprehension or for something more professional?

I'm not sure if those first two books are novels, or if they contain that essay. They look to be out-of-print and rather expensive, however, so in my opinion there are likely not many options out there for you that are already published.

Looking at the text itself, it's not terribly difficult, and I wouldn't mind doing a rough translation if it's a matter of comprehension. However, if you're looking for a professional translation that guards things like idioms, literary devices, etc., your best bet would be to hire a translation service. I don't know where you are located, but the Portland chapter of the Alliance Francaise lists a few, including one that is "uncertified" or in other words would be cheaper. Here's the link:

There are two uncertified translators available who probably charge a fair amount less than the quoted $45/hour that the Alliance teachers charge. Maybe worth looking into?

Response by poster: thank you, nonmerci, for your answer

i am looking for a friend who is going to publish a group of Scwhob's poetry & essays & has translations for everything but that one - they are keen to include it & wanted to make sure they hadn't missed that someone had already done it

i do think that they will have to look into getting a professional translator, or perhaps translate it themselves - i have been unable to locate any translation despite whatever google fu i have (i usually have good luck with it) - nor have any other forums produced any results

thanks or the tip on Alliance Francaise - i'll be sure to pass it along
