What state are you in? You should file for unemployment for those 2 weeks. It's typically considered a temporary lay-off.

They will only understand if you tell them. You should be communicating with your creditors (how many do you have?). It reassures them, and will help you work out a plan with them to pay back your debts. It's what they want, and paying back the debt should be what you want.

Well, his profile says Cleveland so I'm guessing Ohio law applies.

IANYC (I am not your creditor), and IANIO (I am not in Ohio) but I used to work in collections in New York State.

If a debtor had a payment plan set up with us (pre-judgment, no wage garnishing or anything) and he had been paying on time for a period of time (usually five or six months), if he called and explained such a situation to us, we would probably let him send a smaller payment for that month, as long as he understood that it was a one-time only thing and that he'd have to go back up to his regular payments the following month (and that his payment schedule would be adjusted to reflect the lower payment and all that).

So call your creditors and explain it to them. They're not all necessarily heartless and cruel.

(I am using "he" simply because it's much easier than typing "he or she" every time.)
