Brettus, thank you, but I mean the book, not the show.

Sorry - I am stupid sometimes.

I really hope (for humanity's sake) Brettus was just joking.

Not a list per se, but culled from articles:

First three editions: Henry Gray

Timothy Holmes was the second editor, beginning 1861. He edited seven editions.

T. Pickering Pick edited the 11th edition, 1887.

....

16th edition (editor: ?) came out in 1905

...

35th edition (editor: ?) came out in 1973

...

2004 was the 39th edition, with Susan Standring taking over as editor.

2008 was the 40th edition, with Susan Standring again.

Hopefully that's a start, tumbleweedjack.

There's some information here (pdf), mostly starting on page 5 and after, if you're willing to read through it all.

aswego: Eh, it was good for a laugh.

Slight revision: only first two editions were by Gray. Holmes started with the third edition in 1861 and lasted through the ninth edition.

T. Pickering Pink did the 10th in 1883 and the 11th in 1887. I'm unsure if he did more.

Robert Howden did the 17th edition in 1909 and whatever edition came out in 1918.

T.B. Johnston (great initials for a doctor) did the 27th in 1938. He lasts through at the least the 32nd edition in 1958.

Peter Williams and Roger Warwick were editors for the 35th in 1973.

The 38th (the last pre-Standring) was by a Peter L. Williams (presumably the same as the guy from '73, but I can't be sure). It was released in 1995.

On preview: SpringAquifer fills in a punch of the gaps.

Thanks, springaquifer's link had the information I needed- my dad had a professor who was an editor and he couldn't remember his name, but now we have it! Another point for AskMeFi!

Bretus...that was either:
"Hillarious"
or at worst:
"Fast"

Sure, your thoughts might go straight to Coolio when you hear Canon in D, or but at least you can always say how you were the first to buzz in with a correct response (if it was spelled the other way).
