I think I might like to live in a Warehouse.

How do I find out about live/work accomodations like converted warehouses in Cambridge, England?

A few of my friends have expressed an interest in moving to London to various converted warehouses or storage units. However, I don't know where to start looking for something like that in my own city, Cambridge.

I'm a Graphic Designer so could do with a little more room to 'be creative' and a good friend of mine is an audio engineer looking for somewhere to make some noise.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These are (relatively) common in London, because of all the ex-commercial property (i.e. lots of old warehouses) that's been built over the years. Decidely less so in Cambridge because it's a primarily residential/university town. However, Cambridge Craigslist might be a good place to start.

I lived in Cambridge for several years and never heard of such a thing. It might just not exist considering how small Cambridge is. Try the cam.misc newsgroup, or We're All Neighbours. Few people use Craigslist.

If all else fails, look for an empty warehouse to squat. It's almost certainly less of a bad idea than you're initially thinking...

Light industrial units could make for a good studio, though they would probably not be fitted as a living space. I'd imagine this would mean thinking in terms of a dedicated work space that could be shared on alternate days with your friend, while still paying for living quarters elsewhere. A house with a detached garage or barn might be a better solution for your work - home needs. Good luck.
