New Years fun in Pittsburgh? Where?

What's there to do in Pittsburgh New Years eve?
Me and a couple friends will be in Pittsburgh for New Years, and are looking for some good shows/bars which might be a fun spot to be. I checked out the post-gazette site and didn't recognize any of the local bands. So....any ideas or recommendations would be great.
thanks!

Best answer: Check out http://www.firstnightpgh.org, you should be able to find an event that appeals to you on there. Happy Holidays!

Best answer: You might want to check out restaurants/bars on Mt. Washington - you should be able to find someplace warm that also has a spectacular view of the Point and the fireworks at midnight.

The Pittsburgh livejournal community had a post recently about which clubs are having New Year's events. I can't recommend any of them specifically as it's not really my scene, but maybe something there will look interesting to you. Or you might just keep an eye on the community - I think there've been a couple of New Year's Eve related posts over the past few weeks.

Best answer: My ex- & I had a great time at Dowe's on Ninth one year. It's within walking distance of the Golden Triangle, basically in the First Night party central area, so if you're into great jazz & drinks, it's a good spot, with a backup plan/preparty plan (First Night) built in.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone for the suggestions...
We're not really into the whole club scene either Stacey - but thanks for the link anyways.
If anyone has more recommendations, even just generally for decent bars, it'd be much appreciated.

Most of the bands featured might not be familiar to people without a foot in the Pittsburgh music scene, but you'll be missing out if you dismiss them all. Phat Man Dee has been on the scene for a while and I've yet to see a show where I haven't been 100% entertained. Good Night, States and Ben Hardt and His Symphony are also giving a concert at the local indie radio station as part of the festivities, which has the benefit of being indoors. Both bands are fun to watch and give great performances.
