Will a standard queen size mattress fit in a Kia Sportage LX?

No. i speak from experience when I say that one will barely fit in a Ford Expedition (and queen-sized boxspring will not fit).

Best to go and measure to the the usable floor space of the car in question, then compare with standard mattress sizes. Queen is 80"x60".

No way. A queen size mattress won't fit in most full-size SUVs, let alone a mid-size/compact like the Sportage. A cargo van might work, otherwise you are going to have to find a proper truck or box van.

Depends how far you're going and what the weather is like, but I've carried mattresses on the roof of a small car (without roof bars) by running ratchet straps through the windows and round the mattress.

No way in a compact SUV. They will however fit in a Uhaul 5x8 pull trailer though.
