Do you have any success stories working with a creative headhunter? Furthermore, if you live in NYC can you recommend one?

I am a video/film editor in Manhattan who cuts mainly TV and web promos. For the past four months it has been difficult finding professional gigs that pay what my services are worth. So, I was thinking about trying a creative headhunter. Any suggestions/advice?

yes, I have had success with a creative headhunter but I'm not an editor, so my headhunter probably wouldn't work for you. I would suggest your friend should talk to peers and see if a name comes up more than once. the trick is to find one stellar headhunter, the one actually, and not work with bad ones.
