Hudson Valley Vet Bill help?

Are there any organizations in the mid-Hudson valley that help low-income people pay their vet bills?

A relative has an elderly cat who has developed diabetes and she can no longer afford the insulin. She was considering putting him to sleep if she could no longer give him the best quality of life. Googling only turns up spaying/neutering assistance.

I don't know your area, but a good place to start would be animal rescues. I used to work for a low-kill/no-kill shelter that has a small medical staff of volunteer veterinary students. In addition to caring for the shelter population, they offer free vet services to pets whose owners are impoverished or homeless. Good luck!

Have her talk to her vet. Veterinarians are regular people, people who care about animals enough that they made a career out of it.

Best answer: Not exactly payment assistance, but there's an organization called Care Credit that will help arrange payment plans for vet bills. Might be worth looking into.

They're currently unable to accept new clients, but check out Kado Pet Foundation and maybe get on their waiting list.

Response by poster: UPDATE:

I spoke with my cousin today and she told me there were other things wrong, he was beginning to fail, so she had him put to sleep.

RIP Pyewacket.
