Cd Case, YES, ugly? NO.

Looking for nice travel CD cases? My mom would like to take some CDs in the car with her. She's terribly hard to buy gifts for. So...if I could spend some dough on a nice CD case, I'd be happy to do it. So far, all I can find is regular, sorta lousy quality ones. Does anyone have any online sources for nicer-than-usual cases?

I love the Muji ones (you can order additional inserts so that it can hold more than 5). But they're not fancy -- they're very minimalist and spartan. It sounds like you might be looking for something a bit more solid and "quality".

Best answer: "Nice" like Italian leather nice, or "nice" like good design with interesting things to say about the person carrying it nice?

Here's an Italian leather specimen found on Amazon.

Whatever you end up getting her, be certain to caution her to never leave it in the car when she's not in it, or to always stash it under the seat, as even a dreary CD case in plain sight is like a red flag to car prowlers.

Response by poster: Sorry, yeah I might not have been clear. They don't have to be fancy, per se, but I would like to find something that is more reliable that the ones I've found at the local Future Shop, etc. And, if it was a little bit nicer looking, that's good too.

Would she like them to be easy-access, like the visor things? Or just something to store her CDs she listens to every now and again?

How much music does she have? Would she like a small portable music player (iPod or like) to hold all her music in playlists? That's a fun thing to do - load the player and make easy-to-select playlists of her favorites. Another step up, and get her a line out installed in the car (so you can use the headphone jack to play music in the car). That would be a couple hundred dollars, depending on the music player and what kind of in-car system you want to get. You could just get a line-out from the existing stereo (if it's do-able, it'll look a bit odd, but it'll work), or you can get a nicer stereo with a line-in on the faceplate.

I love, love, love my Coach Leather CD case. Kinda hard to find online, but they're usually available at Coach outlet stores.

This one from case logic is great - quality is good and don't look too bad. They have a non-leather version here and also have larger sizes. These are really the classic cd cases... not fancy or expensive but they're really great. I've had mine for years. Sometimes simple is best.
