Know tech headhunters in New York City or San Francisco?

Does anyone know of a good headhunter or recruiter in New York City or San Francisco, who places software developers or software engineers?

I'm a software engineer looking for a job in those cities, and am finding it very difficult to find any headhunters at all, not to mention ones with positions available.

You're really going to have to be a lot more explicit.
Software Engineer or Software developer is useless without your specialties.
Why do you want these two cities, if you're not already located in one of them?

Delete any personally identifiable information from your resume (name, ph#, email) and post it to Craigslist resumes, using their anonymized mailto for any prospects to contact you. You'll get plenty of bites, enough to have to winnow out the unserious.

there's also Dice.com, which also allows you to anonymize your details. I've found it to be more useful for tech jobs than almost anywhere else.

Frankly, IMHO all agencies are terrible. There are individual recruiters within them who are good, but at the end of the day they're all used car salespeople. I've had recruiters insult me to my face and question my qualifications (without even calling references or the companies listed, which I fully gave them permission to do). I've had others fall all over themselves at my resume. I mean, you decide.

You would be better off going through job listings yourself than trusting that a recruiter is going to find the best place for you. They're not, not unless YOU pay THEM - which of course you should never do. No one is ever going to be as motivated to find you a job as you are.
