Question: Naptime in Chicago

Where can I take a nap in the Chicago Loop?

After reading this article, I am determined to have a daily nap during my lunch break.

I need ideas of where I can actually do this. A former coworker used to take naps under his desk, but my cube is in a too high-traffic area for that. So, I'm looking for places outside my office. Any ideas? I need a place that is walking distance from Michigan and Wacker and that is safe, quiet, warm and comfy!

Depends on what you consider walking distance, but my first thought is DePaul Center at State & Jackson. There are bunches of large, cushioned chairs on at least the 8th and 9th floors in public space (go left from the elevator banks on those floors and you'll see them).

Of course, these will be filled by students during the school year and I can't guarantee that it'll be quiet.

I used to fall asleep over my studying at the Harold Washington Library on Congress. Sometimes a librarian would wake me up. But not always.

Sorry, I just realized you are pretty far from the library. Scratch that idea unless you are a power walker.

Either of the buildings Roosevelt University uses (Auditorium Building at 430 S Michigan or the Gage Building at 18 S Michigan) have couches and are publicly accessible. Roosevelt has enough non-traditional students that you probably won't get hassled unless you look like a vagrant.

Hey, indyz, are you volunteering my alma mater for a wandering-MeFite nap site? :] That's kind of a walk from Wacker, though.

Given the choice of the two buildings, I'd choose the Auditorium Building. There's also a great view from the 10th floor library. But I didn't tell you to sleep there.

Haha. It's my alma mater, too. I'd expect the study/common rooms in Gage too be pretty quiet during the early afternoon, but I took most of my daytime classes in Schaumburg so I can't be certain.

There's a bunch of hotels in walking distance from you; maybe see if there's an out of the way lounge? When Macy's was Field's, they had amazing women's rest rooms that you could definitely nap in; don't know what the boy's rooms look like or if evil Macy's trashed that along with ever other Fields' tradition. There might also be a corner somewhere in the Cultural Center, is that first floor senior's gallery still there? I used to see old people at least napping unmolested in there all the time.
