Help me identify the source of this picture! Photoshop? Classic movie? Vaguely Cthulhu-meets-priest. Many thanks!

I googled "cephalopodization." Voila! The picture is "The Miracle of Cephalopodization," by Joan Fontcuberta. It's apparently a photograph.

There's also a page with what appears to be a very Borgesian artist's statement.

I don't think the work is currently on display, but I can't tell for sure.

Fast work, peeps. I thank you.

Ack. Major bonus points if anyone can figure out where I can get a poster or print of this thing.

Checking around but no one seems to have anything like that...

Looking at the links available in nightwood's link, I think you may be down to trying to get in touch with the owner of the original negative/print which may or may not be the photographer at this point.

If he's running with the fine art crew, you'll want to call or contact one of his galleries and ask them who represents him/his work now and ask how to get a print of a specific piece. Go on that wild goose chase and someone will eventually be willing to ship you a framed print at some exorbitant price.

When I did this in order to get a print of Masami Teraoka's (he's a graphic artist, not a photographer, but it seems like it's probably similar circles), it cost me about $5,000 to get the art I wanted. I did see more reasonable prices for some of Fontcuberta's stuff listed on some links a couple jumps out from nightwood's link (like in the US$100's or so), but don't be surprised if the number is quite a bit more than you were thinking or than you can afford.

Yeah, that's about the conclusion I've reached, too, kalessin. I've written the gallery but given its style I can't help but imagine its only a matter of time (though perhaps years) before it turns up in the Imaginus lot. Oh well. Thanks for the comment.
