How might one convert Real Media to Quicktime video, on a Mac?

Not sure if there's a direct converter out there, although you might want to look into Media Cleaner. You can download a demo to see if it works.

What I would do (And a cheaper option) is get Snapz Pro. Play the realplayer video and basically do a movie capture using the Snapz Pro video capture settings which will save to quicktime by default. Again, you can test this out with their trial version first to see if it works.

Is there an open source solution? Can you get Totem or one of those Unix players to do it without shelliing out $69 for Snapz?

Does mplayer support real? I thought that it was mostly winstuff, depending on your codecs.

Recent versions of mplayer/mencoder, I have heard, support Real formats through libraries from Helix, Real's open-source analogue.

Someone who can explain further, please fill in the details?
