When I create a background color is MS Word, and then print it out, the yellow on the screen takes on a green cast, and after a bit of fiddling, I can't seem to compensate for this effect. Is this inevitable, or, is this a function of working on a 5 year-old iMac, whose screen is losing it's phosphors? Any suggestions on how to efficiently match the screen color to the paper color? (I've adjusted the screen options in the OS already)

I've had this happen when the printer cartridge had depleted most of one colour. Might want to check that.

As for screen settings, I'm perpetually in Adobe colour hell and thoroughly confused. Someone else'll field that one.

Krrrlson's suggestion is a good one.

If you've already played around with your RGB settings on your monitor, I don't know what else you can do to calibrate. I'm stumped as to how to calibrate in MS Word. Have you made your own yellow or are you using a default shade from the color selector?

I made my own yellow. I guess I should try to use one of their "crayons," but I don't see why such would have an different "color offset." As for the color cartridge, it's an Deskjet 812C, and only has one cartidge, relatively new. But I'll try that suggestion anyway.....

You're going to have to compensate manually, then.

Create a document with several boxes - table cells, whatever - and into each put a different shade of the yellow.

Caption each cell or box with the RGB colour information. That way you can see what brings the green out, and where it weakens.

Print that sheet out. Rinse and repeat until you find the shade yellow you're after. It'll take some time, so keep the printed test sheets for reference.
