It's cut, now what?

I want to chop off a foot of hair. Because it is highlighted, I can't donate it to Locks of Love or any other charity that makes wigs. What are some interesting and/or useful things I can do with this much hair?

Are you sure you can't donate it to a charity? I'd always thought the same thing but if they turned away everyone with highlighted or otherwise-colored hair, there wouldn't be much coming in. A friend of mine donated about a foot of her hair and it had been colored more than once over the years.

I'd double check with the charities!

Ah mother of mercy, I had checked for this question a couple weeks ago and found nothing, so I didn't think I needed to check again. Foo.

While roger is right about the colored hair, highlighted hair doesn't work. From the locks of love FAQ referenced above...

Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable.

I make referrals to hair donation places all the time, and none of them take hair that has been permanently colored. I don't refer to Locks of Love, though.

Why on earth do you want to save it? If you can't donate it, just throw it away. Does it have some sort of sentimental value? Really? Even when it's still not attached to your head?

Yes, those cancer people take it treated hair. I have often wondering if they actually make wigs with the colored and permed hair, though.

Do you know any children or costumers who would like a home-made wig?
