Wake me up, before I go go.

I would like my TV and cable box to turn on automatically in the morning, so I'm looking for an alarm clock that sends infrared signals (I think). Any recommendations?

I've messed around with WaWa on my PDA for a bit, but my new TV (LN46A650) is really big and the cable box (Uverse) and tv receivers aren't close enough together for its weak IR. The only thing I've been able to find is this but I read the manual and it doesn't look like it accepts multiple IR settings (which at the bare minimum I need it to be able to do 2). WaWa gives you the ability to basically write a script to send IR signals at programmed intervals to increase volume, change channels, or whatever your remote supports. This would be nice, but not necessary.

My TV has an "auto on" feature but it will only let me pick cable/antenna sources and the cable box is neither (HDMI). Also even if this did work it would mean I would have to leave the cable box on all the time which would be undesirable.

Best answer: I've seen "universal remote controls" which are battery powered which also include timers, so as to do exactly what you want.

seconding the univ rem, but some of those with timers can be spendy. if you want to go the cheap route use a plug in timer. most come with two sockets so you can plug both things in. home depot or local hardware store. most people use them on plug-in sprinkler systems and for security purposes to turn lights on/off when on vacation.

What cablebox do you have? My sa 4250hd doesn't really TURN off.

ITs no diff from turned off to staying on.

Why not just keep the box turned on and have your tv timer set to come on at the specified time.

Are you sure your box doesnt have an auto on feature?

Response by poster: I have Motorola's VIP1200 for Uverse. It definitely has an on/off and when it's on, the power glows green which I'd rather not have while trying to sleep.

I'm pretty sure the plug-in timers just cut/resume power to the device, I don't think that will work.

I'll check out the universal remote route or maybe even buy 2 of those IR alarm clocks I linked to.

Thanks!

Philips Pronto remotes can be programmed with timers. The TSU1000 & 2000 can be obtained pretty cheaply on eBay. In my experience, their IR output is fairly strong, but YMMV.

The weak IR/proximity issue could be addressed by using an IR repeater system.
