iDVD presales questions [mi]

1) if you already have an MPEG2 movie, can you make menus for it and burn to a DVD-R?
2) can it output VIDEO_TS folders which can be burned elsewhere? Or is it SuperDrive-only?

iDVD wants to convert anything you import, even MPEG2, AFAIK.

iDVD only burns to SuperDrive, it appears.

Toast Titanium will take a pre-encoded MPEG2 file and let you build menus for it, and export to a VIDEO_TS or IMG file.

2) Look for hpfurz.sit -- this patches iDVD to let you save to an image file rather than burning directly to disk.

Aha. So would you be able to run iDVD on a machine without a SuperDrive, and use that patch to output to an image file? I'd love to avoid the SuperDrive surcharge if possible, though iDVD looks like a very nice app for setting up the DVD volume.
