What should I do if I can't log in to my router all of a sudden?

My router password changed itself! I'm using the DD-WRT firmware on WRT54G v7 Linksys router, what can I do?

Hi. I'm 99% sure that I didn't forget the password because I had been tweaking the router a week or two ago, and I had used the same password when installing a router for my friend.

I don't know what's going on, but I can't log on to my router anymore. I'm using the dd-wrt firmware version: DD-WRT v24 RC-7 (04/24/08) micro

What can I do?

There should be a little reset button on the back. Hit it.

If your computer is still connecting to the router for internet access, you can connect to it over SSH and reset the password.

"2b) Reset to factory defaults
Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds. This will clear your NVRAM, the configuration and reset the password to admin.

Be aware that if your router currently has an OpenWRT firmware running on it, then using the reset button may brick your router. Research your current firmware to be safe."

Are you sure youre using the right username? Sometimes I forget and try to log in as 'admin' when I should be logging on as 'root'

tracert, I have a WRT54G v6 Linksys router, and you're half-right. The login is blank; the password is "admin".

When DD-WRT is installed, it changes the username to root. Linksys stock firmware has a blank username.
