Where to stay in Ljubljana?

Hi All, I am due to go to Slovenia very soon, arriving in Ljubljana. I'm booked into a hostel but looking at online reviews the place is getting I'm quite scared. Any advice for places to stay whilst I'm there? I'm not generally scared of hostels, and have travelled through Asia, Sth America, Europe a bit. If anyone lives there or will also be there over the next week or so, speaks a bit of English and wants to have a meal/drink or two then I'm up for that as well. Thanks!

P.S. I stayed at Hostel Park and can definitely recommend it. Clean, in a decent area, good food next door. It's actually more like a hotel but they have dorm rooms if you want to stay cheaper.

Response by poster: Its Hostel Celica - I was going to put it in my post but wasn't sure if I was breaking some advertising posting rule...

Some people I met in Bled (definitely go there for a few days - an hour bus ride away, stay at Traveller's Haven) stayed at the Celica and didn't mention it being good or bad. I think you'll probably be safe. Maybe check it out for a night and move over to Hostel Park if you have any problems. I think they're pretty close to one another.

Also: you must go to Hot Horse.

Surely no dude will go home hungry!

Doh, I just realized I already convinced you to go to Bled. Have fun!

Hostelz.com has the address, phone, email, url, etc. available before you book. So just write down the info for every reasonable looking hostel. You can check into Hostel Celica without paying for your whole stay. If you don't like them, then check out early and move.

You can also volunteer to write the official review too, meaning they'll suffer if they screw you. :)

Celica seems totally fine when I stayed there. It's a little walk from the downtown, but I never felt unsafe, although I was only there for a couple of nights and not out too late.

I stayed at the Hotel Park, which was okay (but that was ten years ago).

Why not ask Ljubljana (who may not see this)? Worst that can happen with a quick MefiMail is that there's no response...

HA! I'm going to Ljubljana next weekend for a class and we're going to be staying at... Hotel Celica! Oh man.

Isn't it an old converted prison?

Off topic, but if you are in Slovenia take a bus and visit the Postjona (spelling?) caves. They take guided tours through it. Absolutely fantastic!

If Hostel Celica is the one that used to be a prison, then definitely stay there, I loved it.

And as far as meeting locals for a drink/bite to eat, have you checked out couchsurfing?

Response by poster: Thanks for the responses all, I feel a lot better - it is an old jail which should be pretty interesting. I probably won't be there more than tonight and tomorrow night, and then onto Bled and then see what happens after that :)

I did check out couchsurfing and even created a profile, I might have more of a look later today.

Thanks again!
