Whenever I type (R) in MS excel, it automatically makes the registered trademark sign ®. How do I turn this off?

This is driving me nuts. I not having luck with MS help or google. The IT guys didn't know how to fix this either. My document is currently filled with (R )'s instead. aaaeeuuurrrgh.

Best answer: Tools - AutoCorrect Options...

Highlight the (r) ® row under "Replace: With" and click Delete. Or uncheck the "Replace text as you type" box if you want to disable all such replacements.

(This is on Excel 2003, don't know if it's in the same place on other versions.)

This drives me nuts too (when typing (c) and getting the copyright symbol) - but I find one solution is to type it in and then do a ctrl+z to undo.

Office 2007
after it changes, hit backspace and a wizzard appears and you can choose change back to (r) or stop automatically correcting (r). It will also let you go Autocorrect options if you want to take DevilsAdvocates suggestion.
