Question: I have modern furniture. Now what?

Help me find some modern accessories to go with my modern furniture.

I ditched my old furniture and went with a modern style (lots of glass, steel, and shiny plastic). Now I want to continue that style with the rest of the decor. I'm looking for lamps, clocks, coasters, art, etc. Basically anything that isn't a table or something to sit on.

Please point me in the direction of stores or individual items that would fit. I'm located in between Chicago and Milwaukee, but I'm expecting that I'll probably buy a lot of it online.

Have you any online photos or links to your furniture? "Modern", even with your description of "lots of glass, steel...", encompasses so much it's really hard to say.

Did you look at Design Within Reach? Their things are spendy, but very modern.

You might also want to check out the MoMA store.

I don't think they have outposts in Chicago, though.

Things like this, this, and this. I'd be happy with any suggestions that could loosely be described as modern though.

Chiasso is in Chicago (in the Lincoln Park area) and would have what you're looking for. Also try CB2 and the Museum of Contemporary Art gift store.

For pieces where quality is not paramount- IKEA might not be a bad choice for you.

You can also incorporate some natural pieces to accent your modern furniture. Stones, wood pieces, etc. A catalog I love is West Elm, more contemporary than straight up modern, but a lot of nice accessories.
