Racquetball: Yes? No? Yes? No?

Am I done with racquetball?

I have had two meniscusectomies on my L knee, in 2005 and 2006, due to injuries sustained while hiking in both cases. From the surgeons exam table sketches I believe I stil have 80%+ cartilege in the knee.

Is it reasonable to think that I could return to playing racquetball? I have been operating (heh) under the assumption that racquetball is off the menu for me but I'd prefer to be wrong.

As I understand it most people do not reinjure themselves (yes, I'm special) after the first meniscus tear. Does the fact of two injuries in 14 months mean I am more prone to future injuries?

No, I haven't talked about this with the surgeon. I'd rather solicit the advice of total strangers.

I had stop playing racketball because of knee problems, and it sounds like yours are a lot worse than mine. I guess that's all I have to say.

Swimming. Biking. Yoga.

Give your racket to a good friend who has good knees...

Before you give up on the idea of playing again, talk to your ortho about a knee brace made by Breg. The one I have has been used for football players for about the last 2 years so it is fairly new. I got mine the second week they came out of testing and I love it. Without it I wouldn't be able to walk at all. It is made to keep flexibility but will lock with sudden movements.
