video stream automation

I'm looking for a video stream automation application, preferably open-source but I'm interesting in any suggestions. More than a playlist, less than a rack full of industry-standard hardware. For example, there is the popular SAM2 for audio which does scheduling, scripting, weighting, etc. Is there anything like this out there for the prosumer-level video broadcaster?

I'm currently using Apple Quicktime Broadcaster and Darwin Streaming Server running on Linux. Any OS will do for the new broadcasting/playlist solution.
