Croquis monsieur, croquis madame

What are fashion designers taught about croquis? Are there well-known styles? 20th century trends? Cultural/political nuances? Successful designers who don't draw well, or particularly great examples?

Idle curiosity from someone who's had a different kind of design education. Anything you can tell me, I'd like to know - especially the hidden layers of meaning/information that you might read from them as a designer. Cheers!
