Ad-Aware is freezing on registry deep scan

Ad-Aware. I use it. I love it. And it hath forsaken me. Now, every time I try to run it, it freezes on the the same CSLID key (that, inconveniently, I cannot copy or paste) when deep scanning the registry. Upon disabling the deep scan, it hangs on large files in the I386 directory. The forums at Lavasoft provided advice like, disable the deep scan, then try it again, which doesn't really help. Ideas? Google fu?

I second that. There are some worms/viruses out there that will specifically look for ad aware and disable it or delete it entirely. Perhaps one of these has made its way into your system and another program--such as spybot--can disable the worm and allow you to reinstall ad aware.

If the issue is something else, I'm afraid I can't be of much service.

Give:

chkdsk /F /V /R

A go. Then try again.

I had a similar problem with it about a month ago, and I uninstalled it completely and reinstalled and haven't had the problem again. Worth a try if you haven't already done so.

3rd for spybot. also, if you use chkdsk you only need /f. make sure you're in the recovery console also.

Does it do the same thing when booted into Safe Mode? (or is that the same thing as the recovery console. . .)
