I'm getting a 500 internal server error when trying to install WordPress 2.6.2 on my iPower hosted website.

I've installed via iPower's Control Panel several times. The mySQL table is created correctly (from what I can tell) and the config.php file has the correct information, but I get the 500 error when I try to access the /blog directory that the files are installed to, or when I try access the wp_admin site within same.

I've downloaded 2.6.2, unzipped it on my computer and FTP'd it to the /blog directory as well, with the same results.

I've tried to look at the server logs to see if there's anything there, but I can't seem to open them to check the content. Any ideas? This AskMe question had some similar questions, but the error was a 404.

Did you go to /wp-admin/install.php first?

I didn't initially -- I thought the rest of the install was taken care of by iPower's "auto-installer". Having just gone their now, I get the same 500 error.

This could be it:

This was the explanation from my host: "The problem stems from the fact that this new version of WordPress requires 16MB of PHP.ini memory, whereas you are currently provisioned with 8MB of memory."

iPower blows. make sure you enable cgi scripting in control panel

You need to see the error log. It could be anything.

Thanks for the help all -- I redid the install and got an error, then submitted that to iPower and the cgi scripting wasn't enabled. Glad I didn't have to try to get on the phone with anyone -- I've heard bad things about iPower's CS, though it did all right this time.
