Suing in the UK while based abroad?

Have you ever sued someone for libel in the UK, while you yourself were based in another country? If so, what was your experience?

I'm very interested in a top-to-bottom view of what the process is like. How did you find a lawyer? How much time did you have to spend in the UK? What was your overall impression with the way things worked out?

I have Googled quite a bit -- but there's a lot of noise and I'd like a first-person perspective. Any information you could share would be most appreciated.

FYI, there is a proposal to curb 'libel tourism', at least as it affects US Citizens.
