why do models clip tissues above their ears?

What is the purpose of clipping (usually a model's) hair with tissues while putting on makeup/getting dressed/etc, as in this picture?

I feel like I've seen examples of this on America's Next Top Model or something as well...am I crazy? What is this method accomplishing exactly?

I'm not 100% positive, but I am pretty sure it is to prevent the clips from making dents in the model's hair.

what kitty teeth said.

it keeps the hair out of the way of the makeup artist without making funky bumps in the hair.

In oldtimey curlers, they used to use tissue paper to keep the clips from making dents in the hair. Same thing here.
