Need SFW ideas for girls' night out in Boston. I work via remote and will be traveling to Boston area in November to meet with coworkers. Several ladies suggested that we do something after hours, like going out for a nice dinner and then seeing a play. I am a foodie, so dinner sounds fab. But not so fond of plays or musicals. Any suggestions for restaurants and/or non-stage-based theatrical entertainment are appreciated.

What kind of "theatrical entertainment" do you enjoy that isn't plays or musicals?

Stand-up comedy? Improv comedy? Something like Blue Man Group? Ballet?

If you go Improv, go to ImprovBoston instead of ImprovAsylum.

Although ImprovBoston has better performers and more interesting shows (in my opinion, and mkb's as well, apparently), ImprovAsylum is usually better able to accommodate a large party. Also, they have a bar.

Blue Man Group is a Boston tradition, and even though it's stage-based, it's totally awesome.

What kind of food are you looking for? "American?" Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai/Malay/Insert Ethnicity Here?

Pho Pasteur in Chinatown is one of my favorite places, they have about the best pad thai in the history of the world. It's totally not fancy-pants, so I don't know if it fits your definition of "nice." Typhoon on Boylston St is a more upscale Japanese-Asian-sushi place, which is also really awesome (I recommend the garlic lamb for non-sushi lovers such as myself - totally, TOTALLY delicious). Legal Seafoods is a chain and kinda cheesy, but if you want something traditionally Bostonian, seafood is definitely the way to go. There's also a nice seafood place in the Shops at Prudential Center, though I have no idea what it's called, so I'm not too much help there.

While it's not the most stunning restaurant in Boston, when I lived there and had out of town guests, I'd nearly always take them to Les Zygomates. It's a bistro/wine bar place with very good but accessible food (I'm a serious foodie myself, so I have to be careful not to take less food-oriented people places that aren't they're style) , pretty super wine list and bar, not insane prices, and great live jazz every night. If you make reservations, ask for a table on the "jazz side" to hear the music. I always had a really nice time.

Sell de la Terre was another favorite night out with friends spot as well. No music, but a nice space, great people, accessible but lovely food, and steak frites to die for.

Slightly on the cheesy side, but pretty damn enjoyable - Medieval Manor. Definitely on the 'less-serious' side of things as far as food and theatrics, but another option.

I second Les Zygs. We had our wedding reception there recently and I can't say enough good things about the food, service, or atmosphere. Very very nice!
