Where to find a good scorpion bowl in NYC Chinatown?

We are walking around, looking for some good Chinese food, but most important, a good strong scorpion bowl! Anyone know of a good place? Thanks!

Only Scorpion Bowl I've ever noticed is at that Tiki Bar in the East Village... Waikiki something... it's like a block above Houston near Bowery.

Scorpion Bowl! One of life's true delicacies.

In the East Village there's Waikiki Wally's but I've never been.
I'm a fan of the scorpion bowl at Zombie Hut in Carroll Gardens. (Technically neither one is in Chinatown, but both are near Chinese food if that helps.)

Response by poster: Thanks for the replies. We found Waikiki Wally's, and saw a transvestite outside smoking. We go inside, and an even larger transvestite comes up to us and tells us "It's tranny night tonight", and I reply "Well that's not us". We start to walk out, and the smaller transvestite goes in and starts saying to the larger one "Oh no you didn't, no you didn't". It seemed that Tranny Night was not an official party, but just a bunch of transvestites we would have been happily drinking amongst, but one of them decided to say something to us as if we weren't welcome, and ruined the fun.

We found a small Mexican place around the corner with very expensive and yummy drinks, and now we're back at the room drinking our $5 Reggiano Lambrusco we got at Trader Joe's.

Can't wait to get to get to the scorpion bowls waiting for us in every Chinese food place on Cape Cod.

If you have more time in NYC, every night is tranny night at Lucky Chengs. I didn't realize (but should have guessed) that Wally's is a part of their empire. If you have more time in NYC you could certainly go back and there will probably be plenty of trannys at both fine establishments.

Sorry, I should correct myself and say there are probably plenty of drag queens at Lucky Chengs. Cheng's has a nightly drag review. I don't really know anything about the crowd at Wally's but I imagine the ladies at Chengs get drinks there as well.

Response by poster: Well, we weren't looking for the drag queen scene. We were looking for some good strong drinks, and happened upon an unofficial drag queen night. We are as far from drag queens as you shall ever meet, but that doesn't mean I'm too uptight to get my drink on in the same place as some transvestites.

good chinese food + scorpion bowl = seriously, this is so not going to happen.

you're not going to find a scorpion bowl in nyc chinatown as scorpion bowls are not chinese—not even american chinese—but part of tiki culture, and our chinatowns cater to actual chinese people much more than white tourists. some places there do serve things like cashew chicken and general tso's, a lot of them give fortune cookies after meals, but no crab rangoon and certainly no scorpion bowls.

that said, waikiki wally's has them but they also have ridiculously bad food. also, as abirae said, wally's is part of the lucky cheng's empire—the two places share a karaoke bar, even though their buildings don't seem connected from the street, so it's easy for the girls that work at cheng's to go get drinks at wally's after their shifts. part of the shtick at cheng's is that they can be pretty rude to their customers, especially ones that look or act square. if you're going in to get a drink pretty late, there will be probably always be drag queens there and some of them may choose to be rude to you; either deal with the possibility or don't go.

otto's shrunken head on 14th st doesn't seem to have scorpion bowls on the menu (although from the sound of it their volcano blast is at least a close relative if not a renamed twin) but their drinks are pretty strong, tiki or otherwise. go get some proper fiery sichuan chinese food at grand sichuan on st mark's between 2nd and 3rd and then walk up there to get your drink on.

See, the one time I do not recommend Lucky Cheng's, for a change... the poor guy gets harassed by transvestites anyway. Rough luck.
