Speaker problems driving me nuts

Car audio question about mid-range/bass fading out unexpectedly. Details inside.

I recently had a USA Spec iPod interface put in my car (Infinity QX4). Lately, a couple of weird symptoms have developed. Sometimes the passenger side door speaker would fade out completely, but this can be "fixed" if I crank up the volume and bring the volume down again. Other times, both speakers on the doors would fade out (but the tweeters and some of the mid-ranges sound fine). This can't be fixed with volume, but mysteriously will sometimes go away as soon as I engage the power locks. Once these symptoms appear, switching to any other sound input (eg the radio) do not help--so I suspect it has nothing to do with the USA Spec unit itself.

It's driving me nuts, so if anyone has an idea about what's going on, I'd highly appreciate it!

It sounds like the amplifier may be fading out. A lot of the iPod adapters plug into existing cable harnesses, possibly whoever installed yours wiggled something slightly loose. I'd say the first thing to do would be check all the connections, and make sure nothing is loose or shorting out against another cable.
