Late September weekend at the beach

My wife's birthday is coming up and I would like suggestions for a decent weekend lodging/activities, September 19-21, in eastern Long Island, preferably near the beach. We will not have a car, so bus or train accessibility is important.

Why don't you come out to Montauk? It's a beautiful spot, nice beaches and, of course, there is a train on LIRR that goes directly out there. Try a place like Beachcomber resort, which is the latest, trendy hotel spot. I heard the Crow's Nest Inn is a nice quiet spot, a small spot but quite cozy. It's also a restaurant, so you have food right by you.

Gurney's Inn? That link goes to the stuff to do in the area page. As Interested says above, you can easily take the LIRR to Montauk.
