Late September weekend at the beach

My wife's birthday is coming up and I would like suggestions for a decent weekend lodging/activities, September 19-21, in eastern Long Island, preferably near the beach. We will not have a car, so bus or train accessibility is important.

Best answer: Why don't you come out to Montauk? It's a beautiful spot, nice beaches and, of course, there is a train on LIRR that goes directly out there. Try a place like Beachcomber resort, which is the latest, trendy hotel spot. I heard the Crow's Nest Inn is a nice quiet spot, a small spot but quite cozy. It's also a restaurant, so you have food right by you.

Best answer: Gurney's Inn? That link goes to the stuff to do in the area page. As Interested says above, you can easily take the LIRR to Montauk.
