French-press carafe only?

Is there anywhere online or brick-and-mortar where I can buy just a glass carafe for a French press coffee maker?

I'm always breaking the damn things and it just seems silly to keep buying new ones when all I really need is the carafe. I've bought several sizes and brands (Ikea, Starbucks, etc.), but I'd be open to any suggestions.

You'd need one that fits the parts you have from the old ones -- if the press doesn't fit exactly you'll be drinking grounds.

That said, if one of the old ones is a Bodum, Bodum sells replacement glass for their carafes. Most places that carry a good selection of Bodum french presses carry some replacement beakers too.

Or you could buy an insulated metal one once and never worry about the glass again!

A Google for french press replacement carafe bring up many options.

1, 2, 3.

(I should add that you can buy spare Bodum beakers directly from Bodum too.)

I was able to buy a new carafe for my Alessi coffee press, but I rarely use it anymore. I use the AeroPress now at work, and love it. It's made of plastic and won't break, and it actually works. Here's instructions for it at Sweet Maria's.

commenters above are correct about the Bodum replacements (i bought one last year after a mishap). however, i'd like to point out that Ikea has entire 8 cup french presses for the same cost as a carafe+shipping. if i had it to do over again, i would go for the full Ikea replacement, since i ended up screwing up the screen part of the press anyhow...

scratch that - didn't see the "more inside" (doh!)

My bodum glass beaker broke but there are glasses and mugs that will fit the mesh plunger with a tight enough suction to make it work well. So if you still have the plunger - all might not be lost.

I've seen just the glass for Bodums at Cost Plus before.

I just bought a replacement carafe for a Bodum press at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Response by poster: Thanks for all the leads. I'll try the brick and mortar stores since they don't seem to be much cheaper online than just buying them directly from Ikea stores (although the Ikea plungers suck).
