Help me find the first person account of a man who cut off his own hand and (successfully) made it look like an accident.

A few years ago I read an essay that was a first person account of a man who cut off his own hand after many years of suffering from a form of body integrity identity disorder.

I can't find that story now. Can you help?

Almost certainly the one kwaller mentioned, or one of a couple similar interviews on BME.
